Infusing Some 80s Glam into Your Make Up

The 80s were all about excess and that included glam. Sure, some of the colours and styles of the 80s may have been a little over-the-top, but we have yet to see as much glitz and glamour as we did back then.

We know that 80s clothes were all about the bling, sparkle and combination of bright colours so coming up with 80s costumes for a 80s fancy dress party isn`t too hard, but what about the make up? It was, often times, the make up that made many of the outfits that 80s style icons wore back then. Think about people like Adam Ant and Boy George. How about Madonna, Toyah and Cindy Lauper, who are easily remembered for their flashy make up as much as their clothing. Even though make up in the 80s was at times theatrical, you can’t deny that they really knew how to glam it up back then!

Infusing some 80s glam into your make up today is easy whether you’re going to a 1980 fancy dress party or are just looking for a cool night time look. And, adding that 80s glam to your look isn’t very difficult at all either thanks to this simple tips.

80s Glam Make Up Tips

Don’t be afraid of colour! The 80s were all about the colour so don’t be afraid to apply those colours that you may normally avoid—especially if you’re going to a 80s fancy dress party and are trying make up looks to compliment 80s costumes. Bright and bold colours like fuchsia, turquoise, purple and emerald can not only be worn but they can also be worn all together when it comes to 80s glam! Swipe on some blue shadow and dab a little pink shadow on the ends of the lids for a very 80s feel. And your lips; the brighter the better!

Don’t be Afraid of Glitter! Everything in the 80s glittered, didn’t it? Add glitter to your eyes and lips, sprinkle some on your hair and even apply some to your cheekbones. Big shoulder pads and bejewelled tops are nothing if you don’t add a little bling to your face as well. And besides, everyone can stand to brighten their day with a little glitter whether you`re going to a 80s fancy dress party or just looking to have a little fun!

Don’t Be Afraid to Go Nuts! By going nuts I am talking about using make up to create interesting markings on your face, like Adam Ant-ish lines under the eye or little stars or birds next to your eyes à la Toyah. You want to avoid looking like you had your face painted at the circus, of course. Aim for tiny, simple shapes as opposed to big detailed ones. You can also opt for a small jewel applied to your skin with a mild adhesive. These are easily found wherever you buy costumes.

Be fearless and embrace all the glitz and glam that was the 80s!
